Oak writing desk restoration
A massive carved oak pedestal desk regained its original splendour after a complete restoration.
This twin-pedestal desk came to us in a tired state: loose joints, damaged veneer and marquetry, missing mouldings and carved details, and a worn-out finish.
During the restoration we:
- dismantled and re-glued the structure;
- restored the herringbone veneer and marquetry on the drawer fronts;
- made the missing parts and repaired the carved edge of the top;
- stripped the old finish, toned and refinished every surface;
- fitted a new green cloth inlay to the top.
The photos show both the work in progress in our workshop and the finished desk, back in its place in the interior.
